From a journal entry I wrote on September 14h, 2016:
“This evening I was lost in dreaming what it would be like to give it all up and walk the Appalachian Trail and then keep wandering and living. I’m technically still on for a 2018 thru-hike…”
I’ve long contemplated just how cool it would be to thru-hike the entire Appalachian Trail, more commonly known as the “AT”. However, it wasn’t until about three years ago that I began considering it as a real possibility, after doing extensive research before purchasing a new hiking backpack. I figured, if anybody knew something about good packs, it would be AT thru-hikers.
I have been on a wonderful and interesting journey since then which has very fortunately brought me to where I am today, publicly announcing my intent to thru-hike the AT in 2018. There are, of course, many details to work out and plenty of items I need to address before I head to Georgia. My plan, in making use of this (long-neglected) blog, is to chronicle my journey along the way and to take readers with me as I hike north.
